Definition
Glycinol, also known as (-)-glycinol or (6as,11as)-3,6a,9-trihydroxypterocarpan, is a member of the class of compounds known as pterocarpans. Pterocarpans are benzo-pyrano-furano-benzene compounds, containing the 6H-[1]benzofuro[3,2-c]chromene skeleton. They are derivatives of isoflavonoids. Glycinol is practically insoluble (in water) and a very weakly acidic compound (based on its pKa). Glycinol can be found in gram bean, pulses, scarlet bean, and soy bean, which makes glycinol a potential biomarker for the consumption of these food products. Glycinol may refer to: a synonym for ethanolamine Glycinol (pterocarpan), a phytoalexin found in soybean .
Belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pterocarpans. These are benzo-pyrano-furano-benzene compounds, containing the 6H-[1]benzofuro[3,2-c]chromene skeleton. They are derivatives of isoflavonoids.
