UDP-D-galacturonic acid (UDP-GalA), belongs to the class of organic compounds known as pyrimidine nucleotide sugars. Outside of the human body, UDP-D-galacturonic acid has been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as peaches, apples, Cucurbita (gourd), agaves, and oats. This could make UDP-D-galacturonic acid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
